It’s been quite a while since I’ve done a beauty post so I figure I would jump back into it with my basic day-to-day routine. These days I aim for light and natural. I think it’s very popular in this day and age to cake on layer on top of layer, which is fine! I’m not judging, though it’s not the look for me. Anyway, the elements of my typical makeup look:

I can’t believe I’ve been in school for 7 months! I’m finally at the stage in the program where I’m on the floor doing hair all day every day until my graduation! I’m actually under the impression that my graduation date will also be my 23rd birthday but nothing has been confirmed yet so don’t take my word for it.
So much has changed for me since I started school. I can pull some really clean lines in my hair cuts, I’m neat with color application, and I get faster at both every day! It drags being at school for 11-12 hour days but when I have a guest in my chair I have a lot of fun which is how I know I’m in the right place.
Cosmetology school has been REALLY testing me but I can already tell that I’m becoming a much more well rounded and strong person. I’m excited to see who I’ll be when I graduate!
I’ve been growing out my hair for SIX MONTHS now and I’m finally coming out of the awkward over-grown pixie cut mullet-y phase. A couple of weeks ago I had a handful of my classmates cut my hair and take some of the weight out of the back and it looks and feels SO much better! Props to anyone out there with the strength to grow out a pixie cut because it’s a long and grueling process.
So! Now that my hair looks like an actual hair cut again I’m sure you’re dying to know what my hair plan is for the rest of the year. My plan is to continue taking Hair, Skin and Nails supplements, NOT dyeing or bleaching my hair, and getting it trimmed 1/2 – 1 inch every three months or so.Read More »
Late last year I started doing reviews of my ipsy bags that I get once a month. Ipsy is a makeup subscription back for only $10 a month and you get five items per bag. I love ipsy bags and I think it’s time I get back into reviewing what I get!
This month was a particularly good bag for me! I got some great items!Read More »
Ok guys…here I am again claiming I’m going to take a stab at growing my hair out. I know! I’m sure I’ve made this decision 1000 times over but this time I feel like I’ll be more successful if I make some reasonable goals.
So! Instead of looking at pictures of Ariana Grande and longing for a length that I won’t get for AT LEAST a good 2 – 3 years I’m going to focus on obtaining a style that’s cute but still pretty short. I’m thinking chin length, and maybe trying some tools to get some big soft curls (instead of my usual straightened hair). Read More »
I’ve been dyeing my hair different colors since I was 16 and now, at 21, the day has finally come: I want my natural hair color back. But of course, like any other time I’ve dealt with changing hair colors, getting my natural color back is not as simple of a process as I originally thought.

Earlier this year I wanted to have light brown hair so I bleached my hair in an attempt to get the color I wanted. It turns out that I look ok with light brown hair but the shade never came out quite like I wanted and it ended up fading back to orange before I knew it.

I did the thing that I do where I get a “bright” idea and run with it. This week it was the classic “I want a new hair color and I’m going to completely change it overnight in the comfort of my own home with box dyes”. CLASSIC AMANDA. You would think that after all of the hair fiascos I’ve experienced with similar plans that MAYBE I would have learned my lesson but you were wrong!

This time around my plan was to lighten my hair from dyed black to light brown. It’s a new season and I’m in a new phase in my life so I figured it would be good to mix up my look. Perhaps I should’ve gone to a professional, though, to avoid potential blows to my self-esteem.

It’s been a little over two years since the last time I made an inspiration board. I figured it’s about time to update it and tap into what inspires me in 2016.
The first collage is all pink and grey, my current favorite color combination. I put Brendon Urie from Panic! At The Disco because they’ve been my favorite band since 2006 (ten years!!) and I’m still obsessed. I also included photos of a beach chair and a telephone because I like to go out and adventure as well as communicate with my favorite people. I included pink roses on the end because they’re beautiful and I’m in love with floral.

I’ve been receiving Ipsy bags on and off through the second half of the year. I decided that this month I’d resubscribe and I was pleasantly surprised by what I received in the mail. The bag itself is so cute (though pastel pink would’ve been better…pastel anything would’ve been better!) and I really like the quilted look of it.
The first item I got was a vegan lipstick from Pacifica. The shade is a gorgeous dark red that looks very natural on my lips. I’ve been meaning to get a shade like this for months so it was great that ipsy sent the right one.

Over the years I’ve dyed my hair countless of colors, and through it all I feel like black is the best hair color on me. Some may argue that black isn’t much different than my natural dark brown color but try walking around without your mascara on and see how you feel. It has a very similar effect. Black hair makes my messy, greasy locks appear edgy instead of gross. It makes my shittly straightened hair look stylish instead of unkempt. It really pulls my whole I Hate The World look together.
With the New Year quickly approaching, however, I’m considering going for a new look in 2016. I’m not sure what color I would want to dye my hair next, but since I’ve dyed it so much over the years I’m going to wait until my hair has grown out to completely brown again before I dye it again. I’m a pretty impatient person though so we’ll see how long I last with that.
