I’ve been blogging for five years now. Even before I had a blog I spent years trying to put one together that felt right for me. Looking back I think about why I’ve kept my blog for so long. It’s not that I’m considering quitting, it’s just interesting that I’ve found something that I’m passionate about enough to always come back to. What is it about blogging that keeps me going? After a little reflection I’ve come up with some answers.
Fun – Working on my blog and sharing my work with others is so much fun for me. I love writing, drawing, making videos, and being creative in general. The fact that I have an outlet that helps me get my work out into the world (no matter how small the audience) makes my whole day. I love sharing my perspective with my readers.
Proud of my work – Since I’ve been blogging for so long I have quite the array of posts on my website. Looking through my blog I can honestly say I’m proud of the work I’ve produced. Not every single last post, of course, but a good chunk of them. I’m also proud of the fact that I’ve something I’m good at and can keep up with. No matter what happens to me in life at least I’m doing something productive with my time!
Great hobby – I’m a strong believer in the importance of hobbies. They bring a strong sense of productivity and purpose into people’s lives as well as a lot of joy. When people ask me what I do in my free time I have something to talk about other than the latest TV show I’ve been bingeing on Netflix. Also, I can binge watch shows on Netflix WHILE blogging so I won’t feel like I’m completely wasting hours and hours of my time!
My timeline– One of my secret concerns in life is forgetting memories. Not just the big ones, but the little seemingly insignificant ones, too. Since I’ve been blogging for years I have a really nice timeline of the recent years of my life. The couple of months of high school, my time in college, the year alone in San Marcos, and where I am now. I don’t want to forget any of these phases in my life! Blogging helps me keep my memories alive.
Keeps me creative – Back when I didn’t have my blog I had a hard time keeping up with exercising the creative part of my brain. I have so much creative potential and I don’t want it to go to waste. Blogging gives me a consistent place to direct my creative energies toward. Without my blog all of my artistic skill would rot away.
