Summer is typically the time for vacationing, travelling and fun. This summer I spent most of my time at work trying to pull my life together after moving into my own place this past May. I was fortunate enough to be invited on a little road trip to the beaches in Corpus Christi, Texas. Is there a more summer-y activity than hitting the beach? I don’t think so!
I was extremely excited about the trip. I am a huge fan of road trips and I hadn’t been to a beach since I was about five years old. I didn’t even mind that I had to wake up at 6:30 AM for the trip. I was getting out of town! ROAD TRIP!!
The drive to Corpus Christi didn’t feel particularly long to me even though it was at least a three hour drive. I want with my roommate, Teri, and a couple of her pals. It was fun hanging out with new people and being able to relax a bit.
After wrangling a little corgi, popping by a fast food BBQ joint for a true Texan breakfast, and pushing the car out of a pile of sand, we finally made is to Mustang Island. The beach was beautiful! It looked like a set from a movie. It was hot as hell but we had a nice breeze the whole time. The sky was unbelievably large and very blue, the waves were calming despite the face that they kept slapping me in the face, and we had plenty of delicious snacks. I even got to see real life seagulls! My day at the beach was a real blast!
On our way out of Corpus Christi we popped by the two story What-a-burger, which is also the original facility. The service was pretty shitty but we dined in a piece of history! On a similar note, I may have developed a tiny fast food addiction. A-whoopsie-whoopsie!
We finally made it back home right around 11 PM. I was absolutely exhausted! Even now, three days later, I’m still recovering! The sun burn is pretty brutal, but I got a nice tan. You win some, you lose some!
Another amazing bit about this trip was that it was the first time since I was about thirteen that I left my house with confidence with out makeup OR having my hair straightened. I’m perfectly fine without my makeup but having my hair straight has always been this whole thing for me. If I leave my house with my hair done I’m not usually out long. Not on Sunday! I was out literally the whole day without a care in the world! It was a huge step for me. I just went out and had a great time! I think we could all use more days like that.
All in all, the trip to the beach was a massive success. I love beaches and I can’t wait to visit again in the future!
